Search only Faces with Google Image Search:
You can use this trick on Google Image search to filter the search results so that they include only images of people. This search can be performed just by appending the string &imgtype=face at the end of the URL address after you perform a standard Google Image search.
We discussed about Google’s Maka Maka, a decentralized social networking network. Now, it’s confirmed that Google is gonna roll out something like that. But the project which was codenamed maka maka has got an official name OpenSocial. And it’s even bigger than we thought of.
What is OpenSocial?
OpenSocial is set of two way open APIs which will let developers to create applications for various social networking platforms in one go. Now with Open Social developers won’t complaint of cost of learning each platform and then creating application on them. The application will now get portablity and they will be compatible across many social networks.
Why do we need OpenSocial?
There are tons of social networking sites out there, we create profiles, invite friends, interact with them. Won’t it be cool if we could track the activities of our friends, share and interact with them through a single network which could communicate with the other networks. That’s where OpenSocial will come into play. It will provide a communication channel between various social networks.

So what do we mean by decentralized social networking?
To know what that term means, you need to what a centralized social networking is. Well, Centralized social networking refers to the conventional way of online social networking where people register on a website and that website solely hosts the entire network. Everytime you need to login to you network, you need to login to that website. It is exactly what we are doing at the moment through the likes of Orkut.com and Myspace.com and other such sites.
On the other hand, decentralized social networking refers to a network which is not only hosted on the central server but also communicates with the other small third party applications through two way APIs. Two way APIs benefits both the parties, as third party application can mine data through that API and the central server will get some more info. which may include how the data is being used third parties and inturn bu the endusers. Facebook has shown similar kind of model which lets developers to build applications over their platform.
How they are going to implement this thing?
Well, Google has always been tight lipped about their coming projects. But some secrets however are always leaked inspite of those Non Disclosure Agreements aka NDAs. SO how they gonna implement that thing? To me it’s no rocket science to do that. If they interconnect all their services like Feed Reader, Bookmarks, Gtalk, Orkut, iGoogle in a smart way providing open APIs to third party developers and keeping in view the privacy of users, the outcome of that will be a network which itself is nothing but a Decentralized Social Network.
Why Google needs Maka-Maka?
They have many reason to roll out something like that. Firstly, they are out of race in the bid war of facebook. Secondly, they need to take their social Graph to the next level which would help them serve better targetted ads and inturn make them money.
So all in all whoever makes it to the top whether Google or Facebook or Blah Blah. One thing is for sure, we, the end users, have good time ahead.

Fuzzy Search
Fuzzy search is type of search made by fuzzy matching. Google returns the results for even the relevent keywords for your query. For example when you search for ~music player, the google search also look for keywords like mp3 music, radio etc. etc. Isn’t is a cool google trick.
Number range
If the thing you are searching for has something to do with numbers or number range, theen this google trick is just right for you. If you want to search for a music player having memory between 10 to 30 gb then search for this query “mp3 player 10..30 GB” The results will show you the information about mp3 players having memory betwen 10 to 30 GB.
Wild card search : When you place a wildcard character * in your query, google will try to replace that * with the keywords that are relevent to the query. For example try searching for “google * tricks”.
Page title search
The page title is the single most part of the page. The title depicts the content. You can search only in page titles using allintitle: before the query. Try searching for “allintitle:tricks”. This query will return all the pages having the tricks keyword n their title.
Google Calculator
Just enter the expression in the google search box and press enter, the next page will show the result of that expression. Try searching for 5+2*2 and see the result.

For low speed connections logging in to orkut or gmail could becomes an irritating task. You must have experienced gmail login problem especially on a dial up connection. Login in to gmail is comparatively slower because of its rich user interface, because of that sometimes the gmail login screens gives an error. And in orkut also sometimes the login box does not appears and says “connection timed out” or “server not responding” kind of messages. To simply add a video to your playlist, simply click on “videos” link on the left hand side in your profile and then find the video you want to insert and paste it into the open field.
Unfortunately you can not add any other video provider outside of Google Video or YouTube as you get a “Please enter a valid Google Video or YouTube url” error.

This small step shows google is ready to commercially exploit the success of orkut. Google using their special ,seemingly delicious, cookies have been tracking ‘what i search’ on the net . This very much private information if made available is definitely powerful for companies. Being on orkut ,google knows , what i am ready to tell only to my ‘trusted group of friends’ only.It knows my interests ,my friends ,my groups etc. Also if you have used gmail you would have noticed that ,advertisements you recieve are vey related to the mail. Google was for a lot of time ,helping me to surf the net efficiently,but it always was in a way , I like. Today google is everywhere telling me what to do . Whenever asked a question i couldn’t answer , i always used to think ,well google knows . Today i exclaim with a bit of pain ‘google knows’ , yes google knows me .
You can make your name invisible at orkut with this simple cool trick. Just follow these steps:
- Open your orkut profile
- Click edit profile
- Click the textbox where your first name is given
- Delete the so written text there
- keeping the cursor inside the textbox
- Hold down Alt, keeping it down type 0173 from keypad
- Now do the same thing with your surname if you want to
- Update your profile
Note: The keys should be pressed from the keypad given below the “Num Lock” button, not from the keys given above the alphabet keys.

If you’ve got many Gmail accounts and don’t want to keep logging on and off them every time you switch, a simple command line parameter in the Google Talk shortcut can solve your problem.
- First, create one copy of the Google Talk shortcut on your desktop - leave the original intact.
- Right click on this shortcut and choose Properties. The Target box will show you the path of the EXE for Google Talk - something like “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe”
- Change this to: “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex
and click OK.
Now you can login with as many gmail accounts as you like. Hurray..!!
